strength and resistance exercise

Your strength program must be balanced to your body’s structural needs to
enable optimal muscle and joint alignment.

Customized Resistance Exercise (Strength Training)

Resistance exercise involves challenging muscles against resistance. Body weight, stretch bands, and weight lifting equipment can all be used to create resistance to challenge muscles.

Resistance exercise has many benefits. It enhances tissue resilience. Tendons and ligaments respond with an increased ability to withstand loads placed upon them. Bones respond with an increase in density, beneficial in preventing osteoporosis. Muscle fibers enlarge (hypertrophy), allowing greater strength capacity and improved metabolism.

Strength building exercise yields a substantial benefit for fat loss. As you get stronger and tone muscles, your body becomes much more efficient in burning calories and fat. Resistance exercise is an essential part of any fat loss program.

A properly balanced weight training program helps you maintain healthy joints. Focus Action takes a very specialized approach in creating programs designed to correct neuromuscular imbalance, align body structure and improve movement patterns.

Myofascial imbalance in the body, often resulting from sedentary lifestyle and sit-down work can negatively impact joint alignment. It is important to keep in mind the relationship each muscle in your body has to other muscles. Proper muscle and joint functionality requires the right length and strength of each muscle around joints (“length-tension” relationships).

Length-tension muscle imbalances can inhibit appropriate neuro-muscular functionality, the ability of your muscles to contract properly. This is referred to as “Reciprocal Inhibition”. Such myofascial imbalance contributes to low-back pain, neck and shoulder discomfort, knee and hip dysfunction, and other joint pain.

Posture analysis, functional movement screening, and muscle strength and flexibility testing enable us to determine myofascial imbalance that may be contributing to joint or other pain. You receive expert assistance in creating an effective program of resistance exercise and stretching to balance body structure and achieve your fitness goals.
